Build Your Creative Circle: Collaborators Come First

I’ve been lucky to work with some incredible collaborators on my short films, and I can tell you: the right creative partners will make or break your first feature and your collaborators come first.
Here’s What You Can Do Right Now:
Reach Out to Your Network – Start with people you trust. Fellow filmmakers, writers, sound designers, editors—who’s excited to create something meaningful?
Pitch Your Vision – You don’t need a full script yet. Just share the idea, your passion, and what kind of help you’re looking for.
Offer Value in Return – Collaboration isn’t one-sided. Maybe you can edit someone’s short or help on a weekend shoot. Trade skills. Build trust.
Keep the Circle Tight – You don’t need 50 people. You need 3 to 5 committed creatives who believe in the project as much as you do.
Starting small gives you room to grow. Your feature film begins with relationships—and the time to build them is now.
Assemble your team before you assemble your shot list.
